Uh-oh
Well, the Post-Herald announced that we’re folding today, so I’m officially freelancing as of Friday (tomorrow) at 5pm. I’m trying to think of my new “availability” as a good thing. Please pass info my way! It’s weird how your whole world can change over the course of 5 minutes.

I’ve posted 10 pics from my coverage of the Hurricane Katrina aftermath in lower Mississippi on my sportsshooter site.
Lemme know what you think.

Just got back from my self-assignment to shoot the recovery from Hurricane Katrina in the Mississippi gulf coast. It is unreal there, it will take years if not decades to fix all the damage to structures alone, not to mention the muck and environmental damage from leaked sewage lines and sea water. The spirit of the people there is truly inspiring…people who have lost everything nonetheless happy with every small thing they can recover from what is left of their homes. Truly self-reliant folks in Mississippi doing the best they can with what they’ve been dealt and coming together through adversity. Also truly inspiring are the emergency workers, I hung out with the Hoover (Ala.) Fire Dept. (Alabama Heavy Rescue No. 5 – y’all are the best!!!) on Saturday as they did search & rescue and were so kind to me as I followed them through the toxic muck and heat searching homes for survivors. They even loaned me a pair of boots, and made sure I was “decon’d” before I left. After a half day of that with them I was wiped – and they’ve been doing it since Wednesday. Hats off to all the volunteers and emergency workers – you’re amazing. I’ll be posting some pics from this weekend on my sportsshooter site shortly.
